A lone figure contemplating a vast golden galaxy against deep navy space

I've been curious about the world for as long as I can remember. I tend to question things that seem settled, follow ideas past their easy answers and I spend a lot of time thinking about questions that may not have definitive answers at all.

I'm an independent researcher with interests spanning time, consciousness, cosmology, metaphysics, spirituality, personal identity and mortality. I'm especially drawn to the places where physics, neuroscience, philosophy and spiritual thought approach the same mysteries from very different directions.

My research is largely self-directed. I try not to begin with the answer I want. I look at competing perspectives, follow arguments back to their sources and give opposing explanations a fair hearing before deciding what I think the evidence can actually support. My spiritual life is part of that inquiry too, alongside a deep respect for science and an openness to what remains unknown.

I'm less interested in defending a worldview than in finding out how well it survives being questioned. I studied child development and communications but most of my intellectual life has been shaped by the questions I continued pursuing long after school through years of independent reading, learning and research. I live and write in Denver, Colorado.

What the Book Explores

Time

Why time is real, not an illusion. How relativity, entropy and the brain's construction of the present shape our experience of duration.

Consciousness

What it means for a point of view to begin. How memory, development and the brain create the self — and what that means for its end.

Mortality

What would have to survive for death not to be final. The soul, the receiver, the copy, the simulation — and why the evidence points the other way.

Meaning

Why finality makes a life more urgent, not less. How finitude gives contour to time and why the stolen years belong to their own subject.

I owe the question the same standard before death and after it.
